KOTA BAHARU, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Handicrafts Development Corporation''s (MHDC) Kelantan Branch is encouraging batik entrepreneurs in the state to produce more 1Malaysia batik to expand its market nationwide.
Its director, Khamis Yasin, said the 1Malaysia batik was designed in line with the government''s wish to unite Malaysians through the 1Malaysia concept.
He said "screen batik" was currently popular with batik enthusiasts in the country because besides its affordable price, it was also comfortable to wear.
He added that the corporation was looking for batik entrepreneurs with potential in producing such batik designs.
"At the moment we encourage batik entrepreneurs in Kelatan to take part in producing 1Malaysia screen batik which has a bright future in the market," he told Bernama at his office in Kampung Tunjung, near here today.
The MHDC research and development (R&D) division, he said, was in the process of adding more design varieties to the 1Malaysia Batik.
"It will consist of designs that symbolise the multi-racial Malaysian community," he said.
In addition to that, he said the corporation, through its subsidiary company was ready to become a distributor and find a marketing network to sell the handicraft nationwide.
